I’d say Outdoor School was definitely the most amazing experience of middle school and of high school. I was both a sixth-grader and a high schooler [attending Outdoor School]. I think that really goes to show that it’s a space where anyone of any age can really just be themselves and learn in a stress-free environment. It’s really supportive and that’s why I really love Outdoor School.
You learn to respect each other’s differences in learning, and also [to respect] the similarities. That’s kind of what brings everyone together. It’s really fun to teach field studies because there’s so many different ways to do it. You can figure out their learning styles and what they like to do. Through that, you can teach in different ways, which may not happen in the classroom. So kids that maybe don’t feel like they’re good at math, they’re not good in a school setting, can really shine and feel like they’re important.
