Outdoor School has been really important to me for the past year because it’s my first year doing it. I got to see how much a sixth-grader can grow in one week just being around different people and around good role models that are a little bit older than them. It’s really beautiful to see how a sixth-grader can change with a positive influence. That’s why I really love Outdoor School.
I had one kid my last session; his teacher said she hadn’t heard him speak all year and it was really difficult to get him to interact. But once you figure out what that kid likes and enjoys, watching him become engaged is amazing. It’s really rewarding to see how the sixth-graders react to a new environment and different style of learning.
