In sixth grade, I went to camp Arrah Wanna. We were there with two other schools, so it was an interesting experience. The cabins were even a mix of the schools. For the most part, the different schools kept to themselves. We did activities together, but we tended to stick to our own friend groups.
But, while we were there, each cabin had to come up with a skit to share with the entire camp. Of course, this entailed working together with our whole cabin. This was a particularly memorable and engaging experience because it taught us how to open up and it taught us how to work together as a team. It helped me connect and make friends that I would not have made otherwise — it is just too easy to keep to what you know. I think about that often. Really, you can often benefit from working with a wider group and, honestly, we can all use more friends. So I am thankful for that skit and for Outdoor School.
