Charlie Anderson
Hello, my name is Charlie Anderson. I’m the director at Camp Tamarack Outdoor School here in Central Oregon. I’m not only a director, but I’m also a business owner. For the last three years we have been developing programming at our site. We’ve gone from eight schools in our community to thirty-four experiencing Outdoor School. I’ve [not only] seen the tremendous growth in participation, but also the economic impact that it’s had on our local community. Camp Tamarack, I can tell you, puts back just over $450,000 into our local community.
We employ [as many as] 30 employees in the spring, fall, and summertime. I’ve seen the impact it’s had on our families, on our kids, and on our high school students. Outdoor School is something that benefits all kids and all families, whether you’re from an urban setting or a rural setting. Here in Central Oregon, natural resources are a very important part of our local economy. Kids are able to come out and learn about their natural resources, learn about the importance of them. You have to know something to love something, and our kids now are having this opportunity. Just over 2,100 kids came out last year. This year we will grow to over 2,400 kids at Camp Tamarack experiencing Outdoor School.
